Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to visit Imo State tomorrow as part of activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary celebration, a milestone event expected to draw top government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders and other dignitaries from across the country.
The visit forms part of the grand finale of the week-long Imo@50 programme, organised to commemorate five decades since the creation of the state.
The anniversary has featured cultural displays, thanksgiving services, economic forums, youth engagements and investment discussions aimed at celebrating the state’s journey and charting a path for future growth.
Shettima is expected to lead a federal delegation to Owerri, where he will join Governor Hope Uzodimma, members of the state executive council, governors from other states, lawmakers, business leaders and community stakeholders for the main celebration at the Government House and other key venues.
Focus on Development and Investment
The Vice President’s presence highlights the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Imo’s development drive.
Discussions during the visit are expected to centre on strengthening federal-state collaboration, boosting infrastructure, encouraging private investment and unlocking opportunities in sectors such as technology, agriculture, energy and small businesses.
Observers say the visit also signals growing efforts to position Imo as a strategic hub for economic expansion in the Southeast, with renewed attention on job creation, youth empowerment and industrial growth.
A Moment of Reflection for Imo
Imo State, created in 1976, has witnessed significant transformation over the past five decades.
From improvements in education and healthcare to road construction and urban development, the state government says the golden jubilee offers a chance to reflect on past achievements while setting fresh goals for sustainable progress.
The celebration will also honour notable sons and daughters of the state who have made contributions to national development in politics, business, academia and the arts.
High Expectations Ahead of the Event
Security arrangements have been strengthened ahead of the high-profile gathering to ensure a smooth and peaceful ceremony. Residents and visitors are expected to participate in the festivities, which many see as both a celebration of heritage and a call for unity and collective growth.
With Vice President Shettima’s attendance, the event is expected to attract national attention and reinforce the importance of cooperation between the federal and state governments in driving development.
As Imo marks 50 years of existence, the focus remains not only on celebrating the past but on building a stronger and more prosperous future for the next generation.
