Hazard Reveals Why He Ignored Sarri’s Advice to Live Like Ronaldo

By Otobong Gabriel, Abuja

Chelsea legend Eden Hazard has opened up about why he rejected former manager Maurizio Sarri’s suggestion to adopt Cristiano Ronaldo’s strict lifestyle and training habits.

Hazard, widely regarded as one of the most gifted players of his generation, admitted that while Sarri encouraged him to follow Ronaldo’s disciplined routine during the 2018–19 season, he preferred to remain true to himself.

Speaking to an Italian publication, the Belgian said he didn’t want to sacrifice life’s simple pleasures, such as socialising with friends or enjoying a drink occasionally.

He stressed that while Ronaldo’s approach works for him, everyone has their own personality and way of living. Hazard chose to focus on enjoying football rather than following a rigid lifestyle.

Despite a successful spell at Chelsea, injuries hampered his time at Real Madrid after his big-money move.

He eventually retired in 2023 at the age of 32, citing ongoing fitness struggles.
Hazard said his main aim throughout his career was to have fun and play the game on his own terms.
