Adli’s Stoppage-Time Winner Stuns Liverpool as Bournemouth Claim 3–2 Thriller
By Otobong Gabriel, Abuja
Amine Adli struck deep into injury time to hand Bournemouth a dramatic 3–2 victory over Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium, dealing another damaging blow to the Reds’ faltering Premier League title defence.
Liverpool had clawed their way back from a two-goal deficit and appeared to have rescued a point, only for their hopes to be crushed with virtually the last kick of an absorbing contest.
The hosts took a shock early grip on the match as Evanilson and Álex Jiménez punished costly defensive lapses to put Bournemouth two goals ahead. Matters worsened for Liverpool when Joe Gomez was forced off injured shortly after the opener.
Despite their shaky start, Arne Slot’s side showed character. Captain Virgil van Dijk made partial amends for earlier errors by heading home from a corner just before halftime to reduce the deficit.
Liverpool’s pressure finally told in the 80th minute when Dominik Szoboszlai unleashed a powerful free-kick to draw the visitors level.
Just as Liverpool looked set to escape with a point, Bournemouth delivered a crushing finale. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Adli reacted quickest in a crowded penalty area to bundle the ball home following a long throw, sending the home crowd into raptures.
The defeat leaves Liverpool fourth in the table, 14 points adrift of leaders Arsenal and increasingly vulnerable in the race for Champions League qualification. Bournemouth, meanwhile, climb to 13th, securing a vital boost in their fight for Premier League survival.
