2023 Census: AMAC Chair Inaugurate ADHOC Publicity Committee

The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Hon Christopher Zakari Maikalangu inaugurated 13 man ADHOC Population and AMAC Census Publicity Committee for the forthcoming 2023 Population and Housing Census in AMAC.

Maikalangu during the inauguration said the Committee, like its counterparts at State and Federal levels, is mandated to plan for the success of the exercise at the grassroots level as it is expected to galvanise support for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.


The Chairman urged members to note that they are mandated to also advise and provide support to the Commission on issues related to census communication and advocacy.

He also advised members of the Committee to work hand-in-hand and not at cross purposes in order to achieve the desired objectives, including exchange of data and necessary information.

In his Speech, the Commissioner of National Population Census, Hon. Joseph Shazin Kwali said the event marks another major milestone in the Commission's journey towards the successful conduct of the 2023 census to generate evidence based demographic data for development planning purposes.


The NPC Commissioner who was represented by the FCT state Director,  Suleiman zakari noted that the overarching vision of the 2023 census is to produce not only accurate, reliable and acceptable census data but also an inclusive and user-friendly data that will be used by all segments of the society for development planning and critical programme interventions.

According to him, As part of this commitment, the FCT Office will deploy full digital technology in the conduct of the Census and it will leave no residents of FCT and the quality of the data to be generated meets international stone unturned in ensuring that the results of the census is acceptable to all best standards. This aspiration has informed the methodology and quality of Advocacy, Publicity and Public Enlightenment cannot be overemphasized.

"Therefore, the mobilization of critical stakeholders to support and take ownership of the process to achieve the desired outcome is inperative and it hinges absolutely on our ability to speak to the people in the language galvanize and mobilize them to participate in the 2023 census".

"To this end, the FCT Office will be relying on your expertise and structures to drive the message into every home and household to drum up support and participation in the 2023 Population and Housing Census to ensure that members of the AMAC Census Publicity Committee have good grasp of the processes and methodology of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

"The Committee should be rest assured of the Commission's full support for it to deliver on this very important national assignment".
