Former Arsenal midfielder Stefan Schwarz has cautioned Cristiano Ronaldo about the difficulty of reaching the historic 1,000-goal milestone, especially if he considers a return to European football.
Ronaldo, now 40, has reportedly expressed frustration over what he views as unequal treatment in Saudi Arabia, with claims that the Public Investment Fund (PIF) favours rival clubs over Al-Nassr. His recent absence from a match against Al-Riyadh also sparked reports that he may have gone on strike.
Speaking with BoyleSports, Schwarz said he found the situation surprising, noting that the Saudi Pro League may actually offer Ronaldo a better chance to keep adding to his goal tally compared to Europe’s top leagues.
According to him, while the Saudi league continues to improve and remains competitive, scoring consistently in the Premier League or other elite European divisions would be much tougher at Ronaldo’s age.
Schwarz praised Ronaldo’s professionalism, discipline, and commitment to fitness, describing him as a model for younger players. However, he advised the Portuguese star to focus on fulfilling his contractual responsibilities and leave off-field issues aside.
Ronaldo has already scored heavily throughout his career, but the race to 1,000 goals, Schwarz believes, will be challenging regardless of where he plays.
