Borno Security Forces Arrest Suspected Drug Supplier Linked to Boko Haram

By Otobong Gabriel,  Abuja

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), operating under Operation DESERT SANITY V, have arrested a 65-year-old suspected drug dealer, Hauwa Abulazeez, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to the military, Abulazeez is alleged to have been supplying cannabis sativa to Boko Haram insurgents operating across multiple villages in the region.

The authorities say the suspect played a key role in providing the banned substance, which is believed to enhance the militants’ operational endurance and aggressiveness.

The arrest is part of the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts by the Joint Task Force, which has intensified operations to disrupt Boko Haram’s logistical and support networks.

Security officials noted that the operation not only targets armed insurgents but also individuals who provide financial or material support that fuels the group’s activities.

The suspect is currently in military custody and is expected to face interrogation, as the task force works to uncover the full extent of her network and connections.

This arrest marks another success in the Nigerian military’s strategy to cut off resources to insurgents, thereby weakening their operational capabilities in the northeast region.

Residents of Askira Uba and surrounding areas have welcomed the arrest, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in the fight against terrorism and drug proliferation.

The Joint Task Force has urged the public to report any suspicious activities, especially those involving the supply of drugs or weapons to insurgents, to help secure lasting peace in the region.
