Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with The Sun Newspaper’s Best Governor of the Year 2025 award in recognition of his leadership style and development efforts across the state.

Lawal received the prestigious award on Saturday during a colourful ceremony held in Lagos, attended by political leaders, government officials, and other dignitaries from across the country.

According to the organisers, the annual award celebrates governors who have shown outstanding leadership, delivered impactful projects, and maintained high standards of governance in their states.

In a statement released on Sunday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, described the recognition as proof that Lawal’s administration is making meaningful progress through its “rescue mission” agenda.

He noted that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Lawal has focused on rebuilding critical sectors despite inheriting serious financial challenges and an empty treasury.

The statement added that the governor remained committed to restoring stability and improving living conditions for residents through reforms in healthcare, infrastructure, and public service delivery.

“The award confirms that the rescue mission of the administration is on the right path,” the statement said. “It will serve as motivation to intensify efforts aimed at delivering good governance and sustainable development for the people of Zamfara State.”

The recognition comes shortly after Zamfara was named the best-performing state in primary healthcare delivery within the North-West region in December 2025 — a milestone credited to ongoing investments in health facilities and services.

Observers say the latest award further highlights the growing national attention on Lawal’s governance approach and development initiatives in Zamfara.
