Nigeria’s national electricity grid has collapsed for the second time in 2026, leaving millions of homes, businesses, and public institutions without power.
The blackout affected several major cities, including Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Enugu, disrupting daily activities and operations.
The Nigeria Electricity Transmission Company (NETCO) confirmed the incident and said technical teams are working to restore the grid as quickly as possible. While the exact cause is still under investigation, repeated failures have raised concerns about the stability and resilience of the country’s power infrastructure.
Authorities have urged residents and businesses to stay calm as restoration efforts continue. Experts stress the need for upgrades to transmission lines, improved generation capacity, and better maintenance practices to prevent similar collapses in the future.
