The Ifelodun and Edu local government areas of Kwara State have imposed a 24-hour curfew on selected communities as part of efforts to tackle ongoing security challenges.

In Ifelodun LGA, the curfew affects Oro-Ago District, while in Edu LGA, it applies to Gbugbu community. The measure follows sustained military operations targeting bandits reportedly hiding in the forests within the two councils.

The chairman of Ifelodun LGA, Hon. Femi Yusuf, confirmed the curfew in a statement released through his press secretary, Abdulquadri Jimba. According to the statement, the curfew began at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as part of a coordinated security effort aimed at disrupting suspected terrorists and safeguarding lives and property.

During the curfew, all human and vehicular movement is strictly prohibited to allow security agencies to carry out ongoing clearance operations. Residents were assured that updates and further reviews of the security measures would be communicated as the situation develops.

Similarly, the chairman of Edu LGA, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, announced that the curfew in Gbugbu community took effect on Tuesday. He stressed that the decision was necessary to protect lives and property while security forces continue operations in the area.

Both human and vehicular movements are prohibited, and residents were urged to comply fully with the directives.
Authorities emphasized that the curfew is a temporary but crucial security measure and assured residents that further updates would be provided as operations progress.
