Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of focusing on foreign trips while critical issues at home worsen.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, Obi described January as “a distressing month” for Nigeria, highlighting the rapid deterioration of conditions across the country.
He pointed to rising insecurity, noting that the nation witnessed numerous killings alongside “hundreds of kidnappings and abductions,” with ransom demands running into millions of naira.
Obi also raised concerns about the plight of farmers, many of whom remain unable to return to their fields due to ongoing violence. This, he said, is exacerbating food shortages and rural poverty, putting additional strain on Nigeria’s struggling economy.
The former Anambra governor’s comments underscore growing criticism of the administration’s focus on international engagements at a time when domestic challenges demand urgent attention.
