Renowned American Christian worship leader, singer, and songwriter Ron Kenoly has passed away at the age of 81.

The news of his death was announced by his longtime music director, Bruno Miranda, in a heartfelt statement shared on Kenoly’s Instagram page.

According to the statement, the worship leader died on February 3, although the cause of death was not disclosed.

Miranda, who worked closely with Kenoly for more than two decades, described him as more than a mentor — calling him a spiritual father whose life and ministry left a lasting impact.

“For over 20 years, I had the honor of walking alongside him in ministry around the world, not just as his music director, but as a son, a student, and a witness to a life marked by faithfulness,” Miranda wrote.

He emphasised that Kenoly never saw himself as an entertainer but strictly as a worship leader devoted to guiding people into genuine reverence for God.

Kenoly often taught that worship was not about performing songs, but about leading hearts into the presence of God with gratitude and humility. According to Miranda, the same integrity and devotion Kenoly displayed on stage defined his private life as well.

“Today we grieve deeply but not without hope,” the statement added. “The worship he lived is now the worship he beholds.”

Born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenoly moved to Hollywood after high school and later served in the United States Air Force between 1965 and 1968. During his service, he performed with a band that toured military bases.

After leaving the military, he returned to Los Angeles and fully committed to music ministry, eventually becoming one of the most influential voices in contemporary Christian worship music.

His breakthrough came in 1992 with Lift Him Up, which became the fastest-selling worship album at the time. Over the years, he released several beloved projects, including Jesus Is Alive, Ancient of Days, God Is Able, Sing Out With One Voice, and Welcome Home.

Kenoly’s legacy endures through his music, teachings, and the countless lives he touched through worship.
