Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo, has flagged off the distribution of over 30,000 bags of assorted fertilisers to farmers across the state in preparation for dry season farming.

The flag-off was performed on the Governor’s behalf by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, who said the initiative is part of the Ododo administration’s agricultural reforms aimed at boosting productivity, reducing input costs, and ensuring food security.

He noted that the fertilisers were procured to meet the needs of farmers across various crop value chains and urged beneficiaries to make proper use of them to maximise yield.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Moses Dare, described the exercise as a strategic intervention to promote all-year-round farming and commended the Governor for prioritising agriculture as a driver of economic growth.

He assured that the distribution process would be transparent and targeted at genuine farmers.

Goodwill messages were delivered by stakeholders including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Hon. Hillary Egwuda Ojomah; the State Project Coordinator of the IFAD-assisted Value Chain Development Programme, Dr. Stella Adejoh; representatives of local government councils, traditional institutions, and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

They praised the state government for its farmer-friendly policies and collaboration with development partners to strengthen food systems.

Leaders of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and other commodity groups also commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, especially amid rising input costs.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Idris Onuche expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo, assuring that farmers would utilise the fertilisers judiciously to improve yields and contribute to food security in the state.

The programme ended with farmers and agricultural stakeholders pledging support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, in recognition of their commitment to agricultural development and farmers’ welfare.
