Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has paid an emotional tribute to two of his closest associates who lost their lives in a tragic car accident in Nigeria last month.
Joshua, 36, reportedly sustained minor injuries in the crash, which claimed the lives of his long-time strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and his personal trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele.
Speaking in a heartfelt video shared on social media, the British-Nigerian boxer described the loss as one of the most difficult moments of his life.
“It’s tough. It’s really tough. I’m not going to sit here and show all of my emotions,” Joshua said.
The two men had been key members of Joshua’s training team for years, playing vital roles in his preparation and success inside the ring.
The heavyweight star referred to them as brothers, highlighting the deep personal bond they shared.
“One day my time will come and I’m not scared at all,” he added. “It’s actually comforting knowing I’ve got two brothers on the other side.
I’ve lost people before, but not like that. My left and my right.”
The fatal accident occurred just one week after Joshua secured a knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami. Despite the tragedy, the boxer is still expected to return to the ring later this year, with a potential high-profile clash against fellow British heavyweight Tyson Fury on the horizon.
However, an official date for his next fight has yet to be confirmed.
Joshua’s tribute has drawn support from fans and fellow athletes worldwide, many offering condolences as he mourns the loss of two trusted members of his inner circle.l
