The Rotary club of Abuja, Asokoro Diamond as parts of it's programs to mark the 2024 Rotary family health day, has embarked on a free medical services to Dei Dei community of the federal capital territory, Abuja.
The president Rotary Club of Abuja, Asokoro Diamond, Rtrn Shola Adeleke said the club have taken on the responsibility of promoting health and well-being among vulnerable populations. Their various initiatives aims at addressing pressing health concerns such as malnutrition, sanitation, maternal health, child health and infectious diseases while actively engage in awareness campaigns, health campaigns and medical services in underserved areas.
According to her, the healthcare services shall focus on preventive measures by promoting immunization, advocating for hygiene and sanitation practices and conducting health education programs. These efforts will not only raise awareness but also empower individuals and communities to make informed decisions about their health. By imparting knowledge and promoting healthy behaviors, Rotary clubs has been instrumental in reducing the burden on the healthcare system around the globe, she added.
Adeleke said among the free medical services rendered to the community were polio immunization, malaria screening and testing, HIV testing and counseling, hepatitis B and C, hypertension screening, vitamin A administration, deworming of children, distribution of condoms, diabetes and sugar level screening, distribution of sanitary pads to girls, dental care and COVID-19 awareness sensitization , distribution of insecticide treated mosquito nets, distribution of birth kits and general counseling.
She advised residents to take care of their health, " always take steps to prevent illness and disease, be proactive about your health, don't wait until you get sick, your health is one of the most important things in your life. It affects your physical, mental, and emotional well-being".
Adding that by the grace of God, rotary club will continue to do it's best in addressing the Deficits we have in the Nigerian healthcare system by bridging the gaps and strengthening the healthcare system through programs and initiatives that promote health, empower communities and encourage donations.
