2024 World Water Day: Rotary Clubs, NIWE, FMWRS, Others Harps On Access To Clean water For Peace, Social Stability

Rotary clubs in Abuja in Collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers, and the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, Abuja Chapter has harped on the need to make clean water accessible to all to ensure peace and social stability. 

The President,  Rotary Club Of Abuja Asokoro Diamond, Rotarian Adeleke Shola Ayanronke said while celebrating the 2024 world water day on the theme " Water for peace " that working together to support the Global Goals for water sufficiency and making sure that everyone has access to clean, safe, drinking water, can help reduce conflicts brought about by water scarcity and make the world a more peaceful and prosperous place for all.

In a playlet competition put together for Secondary schools students emphasised Water as a fundamental resource for life. It is also critical for sanitation, human development, and for the nature-providing ecosystem services and goods that maintain life as we know it.

Adeleke said the  project accompanied  Award Presentation and Vocational training such as liquid soap production and will continually work to cover the Rotary seven areas of focus which includes Water and Sanitation, Maternal and child Health, Economic and community Development, Basic Education and Literacy, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution and supporting the Environment.

Also speaking, Assistant Governor Bukola Jatto from the Rotary Club of Abuja Bwari and the  immediate past President of Rotary Club Of Abuja Asokoro Diamond, Rotarian Adeleke Stephen Adedapo advocated for water accessibility to the unreached people. 
The Chairman of Nigerian Institution Of Water Engineers, Abuja Chapter, Engr. Marvin Paul Agwoko commended everyone for participating in this laudable projects saying that Water can contribute to peace by motivating cooperation and diplomacy. 

In the same vein, the Chairperson , APWEN, Abuja  Chapter Engr Kaltume Giwa said inequalities in the allocation of water resources, poor access to water supply and sanitation services, and  the distribution of social, economic, and environmental benefits can be counterproductive to peace and social stability.

Also speaking, the representative of the Federal Ministry Of Water Resources and Sanitation Engr. Charity Joseph-Ojobo said the importance of clean, safe drinking water cannot be overemphasized and commended the students for the sensitization through the playlet. 

Hope Presidents in attendance are HP Ayeni Adetundun, Rotary Club of Lugbe FHA Estate, HP Afe Tokunbo, Rotary Club Of Abuja Karu Housing Estate , HP Rita Sule, Rotary Club Of Abuja Gudu, HP Aruokhai Jerome , Rotary Club Of Abuja Urban, HP Emmanuel Abonta, Rotary Club Of Abuja Kubwa, HP Khadijat Yusuf Rotary Club Of Abuja, HP Kingsley Onuorah Rotary Club Of Kubwa Gateway and many Rotarians, NIWE  and APWEN Members were present.
