The National Directorate of Employment, NDE Federal Capital Territory, Abuja has on Wednesday commenced the second phase of the Youth Transformation Training Scheme in Technical and Vocational Skills, YTTST&VS, for 42 participants on various trades such as Auto mechanic, Tailoring and Catering in FCT to tackle unemployment and enhance economic development in the country.
The Director General of NDE Mall. Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo said during the orientation ceremony that the directorate remains committed in tackling the menace of unemployment inline with the renewed hope agenda of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu until meaningful development fall in place in Nigeria.
Representing the DG, Director North central Zone Mrs Olayinka Olayemi said Youth Transformation Training Scheme is one of the flagship programmes of the directorate aimed at developing the capacity of youths in the State to become employers of labour and create job opportunities for others, and has yielded tremendous results as many who benefited from the previous batches of the scheme have established themselves in various skills, as well as equipped others with skills and sustainable sources of income.
Fikpo charged participants not to take the opportunity for granted or exhibit attitude that will jeopardize the essence of the program, but should pay rapt attention to details throughout the training so that they can gain the requisite knowledge needed to excel in their choice of trade.
Also speaking, the FCT coordinator of the NDE, Mr. Noble Chimereze charged the lucky participants to take full advantage of the Scheme as it is designed to enable them become economic self-reliant, earn a living and contribute their quotas to the socio-economic transformation of Nigeria.
In the same vein, Mallam Nuhu Umar who represented the Director VSD from the Head quarters advised participants to be serious with the training so as to better their lives and that of those around them.
Adding that NDE will continue to initiate programmes geared towards creating more jobs in the country with a view to winning the war against unemployment in Nigeria.
On her part, the Head of Department, Vocational Skill Development, Grinter Adika encouraged participants not to misuse this opportunity, but should maximize it for their own good, be committed to the training so that they can become employer of labour and contribute to economic development of Nigeria.
Appreciating the NDE, Ms. Mbaeze Sandra on behalf of other participants commended NDE for the unrelenting efforts in fighting poverty and unemployment, she promised to strive harder to ensure that this opportunity is not jeopardized.
