Inline with the unwavering commitment of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE to revamp the micro economy to create wealth, NDE has commenced the training of 20 women in FCT on shoe and bag making using fabrics and encouraged them to form women cooperative groups to enable them access adequate loan upon completion of the training to start their small business.
The Director General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo said NDE Management in its drive towards making it easier for its successful beneficiaries to grow and expand their businesses encouraged women to form Women Cooperative Groups through which they can access adequate loan facilities enough to empower them establish their small businesses that will make them economic self reliance.
Represented by the NDE- FCT state coordinator, Mr. Noble Chimereze during the flag off ceremony, said NDE is deliberately designing and implementing new schemes that key squarely into the microeconomic policies of the federal government.
According to him the first phase of the training is taking place simultaneously in 19 northern states and the FCT between 27th and 31st March 2023, while the second phase would hold in the 17 southern states soonest, making a total of 740 women selected nation wide, 20 women per state.
The training is under the programme of Women Employment Branch(WEB) of the NDE Small Scale and Enterprises (SSE) department.
He said that the shoe and bags making training was designed to facilitate income generating activities for women to reduce poverty among them, adding that through its various intervention programmes and schemes, NDE had created more than one million direct jobs for women by equipping them with skills and entrepreneurial trainings.
In her remark, the Director and Head of Department, Small Scale Enterprise, NDE Headquarters, Chikodi IKe represented by the Acting Head of Department WEB, Caroline Eluwa encouraged beneficiaries to be serious in the training, describing it as a life-changing opportunity for them to create wealth for themselves and their families.
She urged them to be committed and disciplined in learning the skill, as bags and shoes are always trending and a viable business.
She added that trainees would access loans at the end of the training to establish their businesses, saying that their commitment in attendance was a major criterion for it.
Also speaking, The HOD WEB NDE-FCT , Mrs Zainab Ozimede urged participants to be attentive to learn the required skills to enable them to make unique styles and designs and after completion of the five day training should always update their skills on internet so as to meet up with the current trends.
Appreciating the NDE, Mrs ziphora Daniels on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the NDE for the opportunity given them and promised to be attentive to get the best out of the training.
