The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council through the Office of the Special Assistant to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on Gender Issues and Women Advancement, Wednesday, conducted eye-care testing and distributed free medicated glasses to those with optical challenges at Durumi community in Abuja Municipal Area Council, FCT.
Speaking to newsmen, the Special Assistant to Atiku Abubakar on Gender Issues and Women Advancement, Dr. Lynne Bassey said the exercise cuts across all parties and it's ongoing across Nigeria.
According to her, “We are here in Durumi community to offer free eye-care services. We spoke with the chief and there is need for that around here. His Excellency Atiku Abubakar instructed that we come this way and attend to Nigerians. Every Nigerian who has sight issue should come out and we will attend to him.
“If you need medicated eyes glasses, we give it to you, then if you need cataract surgery, we book you with all-expense paid, courtesy Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
“As his Special Assistant Gender Issues and Women Advancement, my job is in the field of human development and capacity building. Yes, he is running to be the president of Nigeria, and he is using me to test-run if Nigerians really know they need to have a better living condition.
“I will plead that you vote for Atiku, because a person that gives you a better living condition is better than a person that gives you peanut”, Bassey said.
Speaking, the Chief of Durumi Community, SA-Dumkpayi Danjuma Anyidadubo commended the organisers, saying this exercise is indeed a welcome development.
"We are happy with the organisers for this gesture. The people of Durumi are happy for having access to this comprehensive health care delivery and we urge it continues".
